Students will be challenged in the foreign language department to develop their ability to read, write, speak and auditorily comprehend the Spanish language in authentic contexts. The aims of each class are to employ the five C’s of language development established by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
Students will:

Compare cultures and language to their own
Participate in multilingual communities outside of the classroom to becomelifelong learners utilizing the Spanish language.
Spanish I
This course has a strong emphasis on the development of vocabulary and fundamental grammatical structures. Students also acquire the skills needed to navigate basic narration of the present tense. Students are able to conjugate regular verbs and understand the use of commonly used irregular verbs.
Spanish II
Students in second year continue the development of vocabulary terms that allow them to narrate routine daily activities and explore the use of direct and indirect object pronouns. Stem changing verbs are mastered and students practice expressing personal opinions. Students learn to discuss future plans as well as learning the preterite forms of regular verbs that allows them to discuss activities in the past.
Spanish III
The Spanish III course is an elective for students looking to deepen their understanding of the spanish language and cultures of Spanish speaking countries. The course has a strong focus on the differences between the preterite and imperfect uses in the past tense and introduces the subjunctive mood. Students explore current events in the Spanish language and investigate important figures in poetry and art of spanish speaking cultures.
Spanish IV
A great option for students who truly enjoy studying languages or those looking to distinguish their resume a bit! This class dives further into advanced grammatical structures and challenges students to create essays and presentations utilizing the Spanish language. Students analyze works of literature and explore historical events from multiple perspective.
